Non ho potuto godere di quel calcio champagne che tutta Italia ci riconosceva ma ti ringrazio perche hai reso i cittadini di San Benedetto, “marinare” come te, orgogliosi della propria città.
Allenava i suoi ragazzi col sorriso, amava la buona tavola e non si preoccupava di farsi vedere col suo fido “secondo” Gigi Traini nella cantina di “Mazzucche”.
Gli allenamenti della sua Samb erano seguitissimi da centinaia di tifosi, ogni giovedì la curva Nord del Ballarin era strapiena. La mattina se ne andava in giro con i suoi ragazzi al porto, era amico dei marinai in particolare di Nicola Ricci. Di pomeriggio invece preferiva andare a giocare amichevoli con le squadre dell’entroterra. Lì c’erano merende da favola. Vino e salame a volontà. Era quella il suo calcio: ripeteva sempre in dialetto triestino: “Magnem’, bevem in campo dominè”. (Remo Croci)
