Dalla festa alla tragedia
In ricordo di Maria Teresa Napoleoni, Carla Bisirri e di tutti coloro che ancora portano i segni di questa tragedia.
Era il 7 Giugno 1981 e allo stadio F.lli Ballarin di San Benedetto del Tronto la partita Sambenedettese - Matera sanciva il ritorno in serie B dell’amatissima squadra cittadina. Vi erano più di 12000 persone il massimo per quel glorioso ma vetusto impianto e molti si erano arrampicati sui tetti delle abitazioni vicine per assistere allo spettacolo.
Alle 17, ora d’inizio della gara, l’enorme quantità di carta portata dai supporter rossoblù (le cronache parlano di circa 7 quintali) iniziò a prendere fuoco sotto le gambe dei circa 3500 tifosi assiepati in curva. E’ un attimo. Il rogo cresce, i cancelli sono bloccati e la polizia non trova le chiavi, l’idrante più vicino è guasto e il vento alimenta il fuoco, il panico … fa il resto. Molti furono calpestati o schiacciati verso le transenne che fortunatamente resistettero altrimenti in molti sarebbero “volati” da un’altezza di 10metri. L’incendio fu spento definitivamente solo dopo 20 minuti quando ormai aveva segnato la vita di troppe famiglie.
Moriranno due ragazze Maria Teresa Napoleoni e Carla Bisirri, altre 64 persone rimasero ustionate di cui 11 in maniera molto grave.
Questa rimane una delle grandi ferite della mia città, molti hanno cercato di relegarla nel dimenticatoio ma i veri Sambenedettesi la sentono ancora sulla propria pelle.
